What F8 means
On classic Dacor wall ovens and ranges with the ERC electronic control, -F8- is the door locking switch alarm. The door lock motor turns for two minutes, but the phase switch that confirms the lock moved never changes position, and the control sets the alarm. You usually see it at the start of a clean cycle, when the door is told to lock. The ERC is used in the ERSD, PCS/D, RSD, RSE, RSG, MCS/D and ECS/D families.
Common causes of F8
- A door lock switch that does not change position
- A door lock motor or latch that is slow or stuck
- Wiring between the lock and the control
- Switch adjustment at the door
1. Touch Cancel and let the oven cool if it was hot. 2. Make sure the door is closed all the way and nothing is wedged in it. 3. Do not force the door latch or the lock lever. 4. Skip self-clean until we have checked the lock, and call us.
- The motor, the switch and the wiring all take part in the same lock, and the alarm cannot say which of them is not responding.
- We check the door switches and their wiring, and watch the lock work, so the part we replace is the one behind the problem.
- Since these ovens are older, we confirm parts before the repair and say plainly when it is not worth repairing.

What does -F8- mean on my Dacor oven?
The door lock motor ran for two minutes but the phase switch never moved, so the control could not confirm the door was locked. It usually happens at the start of a clean cycle.
Why does F8 appear when I start self-clean?
The clean cycle is when the control tells the door to lock, so that is when a slow motor or a switch that does not respond gets caught and the alarm sets.
Can the door lock be repaired on an older ERC oven?
Usually yes. We check the switches and wiring, confirm parts, quote in writing before the work, and give a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair.
Still seeing F8?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
