What F3 means

On classic Dacor wall ovens and ranges using the ERC electronic control, -F3- means the oven temperature sensor circuit is shorted. The control reads the sensor over and over while cooking, and it raised the alarm after 16 readings in a row that looked shorted. This check is made only during cooking. Without a trustworthy sensor reading, the control cannot hold the oven at the temperature you set. The ERC is found in the ERSD, PCS/D, RSD, RSE, RSG, MCS/D and ECS/D families.

Common causes of F3

  • The oven temperature sensor shorted internally
  • Sensor wiring that is pinched, burned or touching metal
  • A damaged sensor connector
  • The ERC input that reads the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. 2. Do not pull on or bend the thin sensor probe inside the oven. 3. Try a normal bake setting once the oven is cool and see whether -F3- comes back. 4. If it does, stop using the oven and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A shorted reading can come from the probe, the wire that carries it or the control that reads it, and only testing separates them.
  • We test the sensor circuit in the oven before replacing anything, so the first part we quote is the right one.
  • We repair these older ovens and confirm parts before the repair, and we tell you plainly if a repair is not worth it.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F3F3 questions
What is F3 on a Dacor ERC oven?

It is the shorted oven sensor alarm. The control found the temperature sensor circuit shorted for 16 readings in a row while the oven was cooking, so it can no longer track oven temperature.

Why does F3 show up only while cooking?

The control checks the sensor circuit for this alarm only during cooking. That is why the oven may look normal when idle and show -F3- once you start a bake.

Is the sensor the only thing that can cause F3?

No. Wiring or the control's sensor input can cause the same alarm. We test the circuit first and quote in writing, with a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair.
