What F2 means

With the ERC electronic control on classic Dacor wall ovens and ranges, -F2- is a high-temperature alarm for the heating mode. The control senses a runaway heat condition, meaning the oven temperature has climbed above the control's runaway limits. That is a protective alarm, so the heat is switched off and the code appears. It can come from the oven sensor, its wiring or a heating relay that stays closed. The ERC is used in the ERSD, PCS/D, RSD, RSE, RSG, MCS/D and ECS/D families.

Common causes of F2

  • A relay that is stuck closed and keeps feeding the heating element
  • The oven temperature sensor reading wrong
  • Wiring or connections to the oven sensor
  • The ERC control misjudging the temperature
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven off at the control. 2. Let it cool completely before opening the door or touching racks. 3. Keep children and pets away from the oven while it is hot. 4. Do not use the oven again until we have checked it, and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The alarm says the oven got hotter than it should, but not why; a relay that stays closed and a sensor that reads low look alike from outside.
  • We check for a stuck relay first, then the oven sensor and its wiring, which is the order that keeps the repair short.
  • You get a written price before we start, and we confirm older parts before the repair.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F2F2 questions
What does -F2- mean on my Dacor oven?

The ERC sensed a runaway heat condition, with temperature above its safe limits while heating. It sets the alarm and shuts the heat down to protect the oven and your kitchen.

Is it safe to keep using the oven after F2?

We advise against it. Let the oven cool, leave it off, and have us check the relay and the sensor, because the same cause could let it overheat again.

What do you check for F2?

We check first for a stuck relay, then the oven sensor and its wiring. After that we look at the control itself. You get a written price before work, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
