What E2 means
On Dacor Discovery induction cooktops such as the DYTT305N, DYTT365N, HICT305BG and HICT365BG, E2 means the element beneath a cook zone has overheated. Spills or items on or near the controls can also trigger it, and the cooktop then needs a reset. Dacor Renaissance RNCT304 and RNCT365 induction cooktops use E2 the same way: an overheated element, with liquids or objects near the controls able to bring up the code. These are older models still in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of E2
- Element overheated, often from an empty or poorly matched pan
- Vents under or around the cooktop restricted
- Spill or object on the touch controls
- The cooling fan or a temperature sensor
1. Turn off the cook zone and let the element cool. 2. Keep the cooktop vents clear. 3. Clean any spill and remove items from the control area. 4. Turn power off to the cooktop for 10 seconds and restore it. 5. If E2 returns, schedule service.
- Whether the element overheated from use or because cooling or a sensor is not working
- Whether liquid reached the controls and left residue behind
- Whether older parts are available, which we confirm before the repair, and we say plainly if it is not worth doing

What causes E2 on a Discovery or Renaissance cooktop?
The usual cause is an overheated element under a cook zone. Liquid or items sitting on the touch controls can also bring up E2, and clearing them and restarting the cooktop often brings it back to normal.
Do you service older Dacor induction cooktops?
Yes. The Discovery and Renaissance lines are older, and we repair them. Some older parts are scarce, so we confirm parts before the repair and tell you honestly if it makes sense.
Is it safe to use after E2?
Let the element cool first, keep the vents clear and restart once. If E2 comes back, stop using that zone, since repeated overheating can damage the electronics. Call us or use the online form to schedule service.
