What UP means

UP on Dacor Modernist induction cooktops such as the DTI30M977BB, and on the DOP30T940IS induction range cooktop, means the voltage coming into the cooktop is too high or too low. Induction needs a steady supply between 208 V and 240 V, so when the line drifts outside it, the cooktop shows UP and stays off. The cause is often in the house wiring or the utility feed rather than in the cooktop.

Common causes of UP

  • Household voltage sagging or spiking
  • Loose connection at the breaker or the cooktop supply
  • Another heavy appliance dragging the line down
  • The cooktop's own voltage-sensing circuit
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the cooktop's circuit breaker is fully on and has not tripped halfway. 2. Turn off other large appliances on the home and see whether the code clears. 3. Turn the cooktop on again after the voltage has settled to the 208 V to 240 V range. 4. If UP keeps coming back, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the supply to the cooktop really leaves the 208 V to 240 V range
  • Whether the problem is in the house wiring, which an electrician handles, or in the cooktop's voltage circuit
  • What we test at the cooktop, priced in writing before any repair
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
UPUP questions
What voltage does my Dacor induction cooktop need?

The owner's manual calls for a supply between 208 V and 240 V. UP appears when the cooktop sees voltage above or below that range, and it stays off until the supply settles.

Does UP mean the cooktop is bad?

Not always. A weak breaker, a loose supply connection or a sagging line can produce UP. We measure the supply at the cooktop first, so we can tell house power from a cooktop problem.

Can you fix the wiring in my home?

We test the supply to show where the problem is. If it lies in the home wiring beyond the cooktop, a qualified electrician should correct it, and we can then repair anything wrong in the cooktop.
