What C2 means
C2 on Dacor Modernist induction cooktops, such as the DTI30M977BB and DTI36M977BB, reports an open IGBT sensor, and on the DOP30T940IS range cooktop it reports an open or shorted one. The IGBT is the power switch that drives the induction coil, and its sensor guards it from overheating. When the cooktop cannot read that sensor, it displays C2 and stops heating.
Common causes of C2
- Sensor connection loose or broken
- Wiring to the IGBT sensor damaged
- The sensor open or shorted
- The power board carrying the IGBT
1. Turn the cooktop off and restart it. 2. When C2 comes back, shut off the breaker for 30 seconds and turn it on again. 3. If it still shows, leave the cooktop off and schedule service. The owner's manual points to service at that stage.
- Whether the sensor reads open or shorted at the board
- Whether the trouble lies in the sensor, its wiring or the power board
- How much of the power board the repair involves, which we price in writing first
Other Cooktop & Rangetop codes
What is an IGBT?
It is a power switch on the induction board that sends high-frequency current to the coil. A sensor watches its temperature, and C2 means the cooktop cannot get a usable reading from that sensor.
Why does the DOP30T940IS list open or short?
On that model the cooktop can flag either electrical condition on the sensor circuit. We test the circuit to see which one it is, because the cause and part can differ.
Is it worth repairing an older Dacor cooktop?
Often yes, since we repair these units at any age. We say plainly when a power board repair would cost too much for the cooktop's value, and we quote in writing first.
Still seeing C2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
