What C1 means

On Dacor Modernist DTI induction cooktops such as the DTI30M977BB and DTI36M977BB, C1 means the top sensor circuit reads shorted, the opposite of the open reading behind C0. The cooktop cannot trust its glass temperature reading, so it shows the code and limits heating. The same characters mean something else on the DOP30T940IS range cooktop, where C1 reports a burner running abnormally hot.

Common causes of C1

  • Sensor wiring shorted or pinched
  • The top sensor shorted internally
  • Moisture or residue at the sensor connection
  • The control board reading the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the power off at the cooktop, then back on. 2. Still showing C1? Switch the cooktop's breaker off for 30 seconds, then on again. 3. Wipe up any liquid around the glass and controls once the cooktop is cool. 4. If the code stays, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the short is in the sensor, its wiring or the board
  • Whether moisture reached the connection
  • Which part is needed, confirmed before we quote
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
C1C1 questions
Why does my DOP30T940IS show C1 with a different meaning?

On that induction range cooktop C1 refers to a burner's internal temperature rising too high. Modernist DTI cooktops use the same characters for a shorted top sensor, so the model decides the meaning.

Is a shorted sensor dangerous?

The cooktop is built to stop heating when it cannot read temperature safely, so the code protects the unit. Leave it off until it is tested instead of trying to work around it.

What does a repair involve?

We test the sensor circuit and its wiring, then the board, and confirm the part before quoting. You approve a written price first, and the work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
