When power returns after a storm, a Dacor range with electronic controls can behave oddly. A surge can strain the control board, so look the range over before you cook on it.
If lights flickered or a neighbor lost power as well, mention that when you book. It helps us judge whether the cause may be on the utility side or inside the home.
First Look
- Check that the clock and display come back normally.
- Look at the breaker for the range and reset it only once.
- Do not use the oven if the display flashes, shows odd characters or stays blank.
Gas Burners After an Outage
Gas rangetops usually need electricity to spark. In the dark, lighting a burner with a match is tempting, but read your manual first. If gas is in the air, turn the knobs off and leave the kitchen.
Signs of Surge Damage
- A display that is dim, incomplete or random.
- Buttons that do nothing or act on their own.
- An oven that does not heat, though the display looks fine.
- A fan that turns on without being switched on.
What Those Signs Cannot Tell Us
A surge may have harmed the control board, but a tripped breaker or a loose connector causes the same effects. We test before we replace.
Protecting the Range
An electrician can fit a whole-house surge protector at your panel, which shields a range along with everything else. Ask which type suits your home.
Older Ranges
Boards in older ranges can be hard to find, so we check availability before work starts. See our range repair page. To have a technician come out, call us or book a visit online.
