A puddle under a Dacor refrigerator comes from one of a few places: the defrost drain, the water line, the ice maker or condensation. Tracing where it starts tells us a lot.
Take a photo of the puddle and of the area behind the refrigerator before you pull the unit out. A picture of where the water first appears is one of the most useful things you can send us.
Dry the Floor and Watch
Wipe the area dry, place a paper towel under the front, and check it again after an hour and after a day. A slow drip points to a drain or condensation. A steady flow points to a water line.
Check the Inside
- Look at the back wall for ice buildup, which can clog the drain.
- Check the drain hole at the base of the refrigerator section.
- Look for water in the crisper drawers or on the shelf glass.
Check the Supply Line
With an ice maker or water dispenser installed, the thin supply tube behind the cabinet is the next place to look. Wet fittings or a kinked tube are easy to spot. Turn the water valve off if you find a leak.
What a Puddle Does Not Reveal
The same puddle can come from a plugged drain, a cracked tray or a failing valve. We do not guess; we trace the water to its start.
Humidity Plays a Part
In Houston summers, a gasket that does not seal lets warm moist air in. That air condenses and adds to the water that drains.
Next Steps
If the flow keeps going, close the refrigerator’s supply valve, and take photos of the leak. On older units, we tell you honestly if repair is worth it. See our refrigerator repair page.
