A Dacor oven that stops matching its set temperature usually shows it in the food first. Here are five signs, and what each does and does not tell us.
One bad bake does not prove the oven is off. Test it at the temperature you use most, such as 350 degrees, and repeat the check once or twice so you can tell a pattern from a one-time miss.
1. Cookies Brown on the Bottom Only
This can mean a lower element working harder than the upper, or a rack in the wrong position. Try the middle rack and see if it changes.
2. Preheat Takes Much Longer
A slow preheat can point to a weak element, a sensor reading wrongly or a gasket that leaks air. It does not prove which one.
3. A Roast Is Done Early or Late
If a recipe that always worked suddenly takes a different time, check the temperature with an oven thermometer placed in the center.
4. One Side Cooks Faster Than the Other
Uneven heat can come from a convection fan that is not turning, a worn element or a blocked vent.
5. The Display and the Thermometer Disagree
A gap of 25 degrees or more between the display and a thermometer suggests the sensor or the control needs attention. Some ovens allow an owner to adjust the offset, which the manual describes.
What to Do Next
Jot down the temperature you set, what the thermometer showed, and the preheat time. With those three numbers we can pick the right test.
For ovens that are many years old, we say whether a repair makes sense. Our wall oven repair page explains what we cover.
