What F4 means
Where classic Dacor wall ovens and ranges use the ERC electronic control, -F4- tells you the oven sensor circuit is open, as if the sensor were disconnected. The control saw an open circuit on 16 consecutive readings, and it checks only while the oven is cooking. When it sets the alarm, the control beeps and the bake modes are disabled. The ERC is used in the ERSD, PCS/D, RSD, RSE, RSG, MCS/D and ECS/D families, and many of these ovens are still in service.
Common causes of F4
- A broken or disconnected oven sensor wire
- A loose or corroded sensor connector
- An oven sensor that has gone open inside
- The ERC input that reads the sensor
1. Touch Cancel to stop the beeping and let the oven cool completely. 2. Do not pull on or bend the sensor probe inside the oven. 3. Avoid starting a bake cycle until the oven has been checked, since the bake modes are disabled by this alarm. 4. Call us to have the sensor circuit tested.
- An open circuit can sit in the sensor, in its wiring or in the connector, and none of them can be told apart from the front of the oven.
- We measure the sensor circuit with the oven cold and check the connector, so the part we replace is the one behind the problem.
- If a part for your older ERC oven is hard to find, we say so before booking the repair.

What does -F4- mean on a Dacor oven?
The ERC sees an open oven sensor circuit, which means a break somewhere between the control and the sensor. It beeps and disables bake modes until the circuit is repaired.
How is F4 different from F3?
F3 is a shorted sensor circuit and F4 is an open one. Both appear only while cooking and both stop the control from reading oven temperature, but the cause and the repair can differ.
Can I still use the broiler or other modes?
We advise leaving the oven off until we check it. The alarm disables the bake modes, and cooking without a working temperature sensor is a poor idea for the oven and your food.
