What Door-not-shut error message (self-clean) means
Dacor Discovery DYRP48 ranges, including the DYRP48DS and DYRP48D-C-S, show an error message when the oven door is not shut during a self-clean cycle. There is no numeric code, only the message on the control. The cleaning cycle cannot go on with the door open, so the oven stops and waits for you. These are older Discovery ranges that are still in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of Door-not-shut error message (self-clean)
- The oven door was not pushed fully closed when the cycle began
- Something resting in the door opening, such as a rack edge or a towel
- A door latch or lock switch that does not register a closed door
- A worn door seal that keeps the door from sitting flat
1. Touch CANCEL RIGHT or CANCEL LEFT, whichever side is cleaning. 2. Wait about one minute. 3. Close the door firmly, making sure nothing is caught in it, then start the self-clean cycle again. 4. If the message returns with the door fully closed, stop and call us.
- Closing the door solves the message only when the door was simply left open; if it keeps appearing, the closed-door switch may not be registering.
- We check the door latch, the lock switch and the seal before the next cleaning cycle, because a hot cleaning cycle should not be attempted on a door that does not seal.
- Some older Discovery parts are scarce, so we confirm parts before the repair, and we say plainly if a repair is not worth it.

Why does my Dacor Discovery range say the door is not shut?
The control senses that the oven door is open or not latched while a self-clean cycle is starting or running. Cleaning will not proceed until the door is closed and the message is cleared with the cancel key.
How do I clear the message?
Touch CANCEL RIGHT or CANCEL LEFT for the oven that was cleaning, wait about one minute, and then close the door. After that you can start the self-clean cycle again.
The door looks closed but the message returns. What now?
Then the door switch, latch or seal may not be doing its job. We inspect them, give you a written price before any work, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
