What C-23 means

On the current Dacor Modernist, Contemporary and Transitional wall ovens, including the DOB30M977S, DOB30T977S and DOC30M977D, C-23 means the temperature probe sensor is shorted while the oven operates. The control sees a signal from the probe circuit that is not a valid reading, so it shows C-23 and stops relying on that sensor. You see the code on the display, and the oven may not start a cooking mode.

Common causes of C-23

  • A temperature probe sensor that has shorted
  • Probe wiring or a connector with damaged insulation
  • A control board input that is misreading the probe signal
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press OFF and start the oven again. 2. If C-23 stays, switch the oven off at the breaker for at least 30 seconds. 3. Turn the breaker back on and check the display. 4. If the problem persists, call us for service.

! Why to stop there
  • A shorted reading can come from the sensor, its wire or the board, and the code does not tell us which.
  • We test the probe circuit in place before we replace any part.
  • You approve the written price first, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
C-23C-23 questions
What is C-23 on a Dacor wall oven?

It means the temperature probe sensor is shorted while the oven is running. The control cannot use that reading as a real temperature, so the oven shows C-23 on the display.

Does C-23 mean the probe is bad?

Not necessarily. A short can also be in the wiring or on the board. That is why we test the circuit instead of replacing the probe on a guess.

Will restarting the oven clear C-23?

It may clear a one-time glitch, and the owner's manual lists a restart. If C-23 returns after the breaker reset, the short is real and needs testing.
