SGM304
Dacor SGM304 Platform-Grate Cooktop Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Sealed burners that fail to ignite
- A flame that burns unevenly on the large burner
- Platform grates that no longer sit flat
- Igniters that wear or get dirty
The Dacor SGM304 is a 30-inch Preference gas cooktop with four sealed burners: 14,000 BTU, 12,500 BTU and two at 8,500 BTU. It has two 11-inch platform grates and fits a counter cutout of 27 1/2 by 19 7/8 inches. The SGM304R is another version of the same number.
Two grates mean that two groups of burners sit under each one, which is useful when something looks wrong. If a pot rocks, the grate or its feet are the cause. If a flame looks uneven, we compare it with the burner of the same size. We clean the sealed burners and caps, test the igniters and check how each valve turns. The cutout size is worth knowing if a replacement is ever needed.
Preference cooktops are older, and the SGM304 is a model we still repair. Locating parts can take time, so we begin there. The model on the label settles which version you own. You will see the price on paper before work starts, and a 30-day workmanship warranty stays with the repair.

What are the burner sizes on the SGM304?
It has one 14,000 BTU burner, one 12,500 BTU burner and two 8,500 BTU burners. The larger ones are for quick boiling, and the smaller ones for simmering and gentle cooking.
What cutout size does it need?
The cutout is 27 1/2 by 19 7/8 inches. A new cooktop would have to fit that opening, or the countertop would need to be cut.
Why does my pot rock on the platform grate?
A grate that sits unevenly may have a worn foot, or a burner cap may be pushing it up. We check each foot and each cap, and tell you whether a replacement grate is available.
