What F-8 means
F-8 on a Dacor EDW or IDW 24-inch dishwasher with the older WPS platform is a communication failure. The control board and the power board pass data back and forth, and that data link has broken down. A wet connector between the two boards is the most common reason. The display shows F-8 and the dishwasher stops responding as it should. These older machines are still in many Houston homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of F-8
- Moisture at the connector between the control board and the power board
- A loose or corroded board connector
- A control board or power board that has stopped sending data
1. Switch the dishwasher breaker off if you see water around the base or under the door. 2. Wipe up any water on the floor so nobody slips. 3. Check that the door is shut and latched fully. 4. Do not open the control panel or the lower panel yourself. 5. Call us and tell us whether the dishwasher has leaked recently, because a wet connector often follows a leak.
- A dry connector and a damaged board look the same on the display, so we open the control area and test both boards.
- If moisture reached the connector, we also trace where the water came from, or the code returns.
- Older boards can be hard to find, so we confirm the part before we start and quote the price in writing.
Other Dishwasher codes
Why does my Dacor dishwasher show F-8?
The control board and the power board have stopped exchanging data. Moisture at the connector joining them is the most common reason, though a damaged board can cause the same code.
Does F-8 mean the dishwasher is leaking?
Not by itself. F-8 is a data problem between boards. But a wet connector is the usual cause, so a past or present leak is worth checking, and we look for the water path during the visit.
Can a wet connector be fixed without a new board?
Sometimes. If the connector and board are undamaged, drying and cleaning the contacts may be enough. If corrosion has reached the board, replacement is the safer repair, and we explain which applies before you approve the price.
Still seeing F-8?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
