What F-1 means

F-1 on Dacor EDW and IDW 24-inch dishwashers from the older WPS platform points to the inlet valve. The control expects to sense conductivity in the sump after the tub fills, and when it does not, it reads that no water came in and shows F-1. You may find the tub dry or barely wet and the cycle stopped. This is an older dishwasher that still serves many homes, and we repair it.

Common causes of F-1

  • Water supply valve closed or the home supply off
  • Fill line kinked or clogged
  • The inlet valve not opening
  • Wiring to the valve or the control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the shutoff valve under the sink all the way. 2. Run the kitchen faucet to be sure water reaches the house plumbing. 3. Look along the fill hose for a kink or a crushed spot. 4. If F-1 returns, schedule service. Leave the dishwasher in its cabinet rather than pulling it out.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether water arrives at the valve and the valve opens
  • Whether the sump sensor misreads a full tub
  • Whether the valve for this older model can still be sourced
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F-1F-1 questions
What does F-1 mean on an older Dacor dishwasher?

The control did not detect water in the sump after the fill period, which is tied to the inlet valve. Either water is not entering or the valve is not opening.

Could the water supply be the problem?

Yes. A shut valve, a pinched hose or weak pressure in the house can stop the tub from filling. Those three are easy and safe for you to look at before we arrive.

Will you repair an older EDW or IDW?

Yes. We check which parts can still be sourced, quote in writing, and stand behind the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty. Call us or fill out the online form to schedule service.
