What F-5 means
F-5 on Dacor EDW and IDW 24-inch dishwashers from the older WPS platform refers to the air flow fan, the fan that moves air through the tub to help dry the dishes. When the control does not get the expected result from it, it shows F-5. The dishwasher may wash normally but leave dishes damp, or stop before the drying phase. Dishwashers from this earlier line are still working in plenty of kitchens, and we take them on.
Common causes of F-5
- Fan motor not turning
- Fan blocked or obstructed
- Wiring to the fan loose
- The control that drives the fan
1. Open the door and let the tub air out, then restart the dishwasher. 2. If F-5 returns, schedule service. You can hand-dry dishes or run normal washing meanwhile if the dishwasher still finishes cycles. 3. Please do not remove the lower panel or touch the wiring.
- Whether the fan turns freely and spins up when called
- Whether the motor, wiring or control is the problem

Other Dishwasher codes
What does the air flow fan do?
It pushes air through the tub during the drying phase so dishes finish dry. F-5 means the control could not confirm the fan was working.
Can I still wash dishes with F-5 showing?
If the machine still completes washing, you may use it and dry dishes by hand, but the code will keep appearing. We recommend scheduling service so drying works again.
Is the fan a hard part to find?
On older Dacor dishwashers, some parts are scarce. We confirm the part before the repair and quote in writing, and we tell you honestly if the repair is not worth doing.
Still seeing F-5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
