What F-2 means
F-2 on Dacor EDW and IDW 24-inch dishwashers from the older WPS platform refers to the circulation pump, the pump that sends water through the spray arms during wash. When the control does not get the expected result from it, the cycle stops and the display shows F-2. Dishes may come out dirty, or the machine may stop partway through. Dishwashers this age are common in kitchens we visit, and we repair them without pushing replacement.
Common causes of F-2
- Circulation pump motor not turning
- Debris jamming the pump
- Wiring to the pump loose
- The control that powers the pump
1. Open the door and look at the lower rack. Make sure nothing is blocking the spray arm from turning. 2. Close the door and restart the dishwasher. 3. If F-2 returns, stop using it and schedule service. 4. Please do not reach into the sump or remove panels.
- Whether the pump spins freely or is jammed
- Whether the motor, its wiring or the control is the problem
- Which parts are still available, confirmed before we repair

What does the circulation pump do?
It moves water from the sump up to the spray arms to wash the dishes. F-2 means the control cannot confirm that it is working.
Can I run another cycle after F-2?
One restart is fine, but if the code returns the pump likely needs testing. Repeated cycles will not clean dishes if water is not circulating.
Is it worth repairing an older dishwasher with F-2?
Often it is, since pump repairs are routine for us. We tell you plainly if the cost makes replacement the better choice, and the price is written before work.
Still seeing F-2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
