Dacor SGM365 Preference Gas Cooktop Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Igniters and spark modules that wear out
  2. Burner ports that clog
  3. Knobs that wear loose
  4. Burners that light slowly

The Dacor SGM365 is a 36-inch Preference gas cooktop from the SGM series. The SGM365S is the same cooktop with a suffix. The series was offered in 30-, 36- and 46-inch widths, so this one sits in the middle of the range. It has been discontinued.

The most common thing we do on a cooktop like this is clean it properly. Clogged burner ports are an easy cause of a slow or uneven flame, and they build up gradually, so many owners do not notice until the flame changes. We clear the ports, check the caps, and test each igniter. If several burners are slow to light together, we test the spark module that serves them. Knob wear is checked by feeling how each knob grips its valve.

We keep older Preference cooktops going where it makes sense, and we advise against it when the cost is too high for the cooktop’s age. Parts for the SGM365 can be hard to find, so we confirm them early. The model and serial on the label guide the order. You get a written estimate before work, and a 30-day workmanship warranty applies.

SGM365SGM365 questions
What widths did the SGM series come in?

The series was offered in 30-inch, 36-inch and 46-inch widths. The SGM365 is the 36-inch size, and parts do not always carry over between widths, so we check the exact number.

Why is my burner flame yellow or weak?

Clogged ports are a common reason, along with a cap that is not seated. We clean the burner, reseat the cap and check the flame again before looking at the valve.

How can I keep burner ports clear?

Wipe up spills quickly and lift the caps now and then to clean around the ports with a soft brush. If a flame stays uneven afterward, we can clean and test the burner.
