What F1 means
F1 on a Dacor Modernist induction cooktop, such as the DTI30M977BB or DTI36M977BB, means the control cannot communicate with its EEPROM, the small memory chip that stores the cooktop's settings and calibration. Without it the control cannot start up correctly, so the display shows F1 and the cooktop may refuse to heat. It tends to show up the moment you press POWER, with no burner coming on.
Common causes of F1
- Connection to the memory chip interrupted
- Power disturbance corrupting the stored data
- The memory chip itself
- The control board holding it
1. Press the POWER key to restart the cooktop. 2. If F1 stays, disconnect power for more than 30 seconds and restore it. 3. If the code comes back, leave the cooktop off and schedule service. Keep the cooktop switched off at the breaker until we test it.
- Whether the chip, its connection or the control board is the real problem
- Whether the board can be repaired or must be replaced as a unit
- The part cost, which we quote in writing before work

What does EEPROM mean in an F1 code?
It is a memory chip on the control board that keeps the cooktop's settings when power is off. F1 means the control could not talk to it, so startup stops.
Will unplugging the cooktop fix F1?
Sometimes a full power cycle clears a one-time interruption. If F1 returns after disconnecting power for more than 30 seconds, the problem is in the board and needs a technician.
Is a board replacement likely?
Often the memory chip sits on the control board, so the board is the usual repair. We confirm that by testing and give you a written price. If it is not worth repairing, we tell you so.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
