Caring for a Dacor Wine Column in Houston Humidity

Humidity, garage heat and tight cabinet fits all affect a Dacor wine column. These steady habits help it last longer and keep your bottles steady.

A wine column is built to hold a steady temperature, but Houston heat and damp air make the job harder. A few habits reduce the strain and extend its life.

Leave a little space between the bottles and the back wall, and do not overfill the shelves. Crowding restricts airflow inside the cabinet, and it makes temperature swings more likely when the door opens often during summer entertaining.

Give It Room to Breathe

A column set tightly into cabinetry needs open vents. Keep the grille at the bottom clear of boxes, rugs and cleaning supplies. If the unit sits in a pantry or bar area with little airflow, a warm room makes the cooling parts work longer.

Vacuum the Grille Twice a Year

Dust on the condenser makes the unit work harder. Switch off the power, remove the grille, and vacuum gently with a soft brush. Do not bend the fins.

Look After the Door Seal

Humid air attacks door gaskets over time. Wipe the seal with a damp cloth every few months and check that it grips a sheet of paper evenly around the frame.

Watch the Display, Not Just the Dial

If the temperature display shifts by several degrees from where you set it, or the unit swings between cool and warm, write down the readings over a day. That pattern helps us tell a sensor problem from a cooling problem.

Condensation Is a Clue

A little moisture on the glass in humid weather can be normal. Constant dripping or puddles inside the cabinet is not, and it usually means a door seal or drain problem.

Older Units

Many wine columns in Houston homes are well over a decade old. We repair them when parts exist and say so when a repair is not worth the money. Learn more on our wine column repair page.
