Dacor Microwave Hums But Food Stays Cold

If your Dacor microwave turns, hums and lights up but the food stays cold, here is what we check and what you should never open yourself.

When the fan, light and turntable all work but a plate comes out cold, the unit is no longer producing heat, or the heat never reaches the cavity. We see this often in older units. The inside of the case is off limits to owners, so here is what you can check from the front.

Note whether the turntable spins, the light comes on and the fan sounds normal. A microwave that does all of that but never heats points in a different direction than one that also behaves oddly in other ways.

Check the Simple Things First

  1. Make sure the power level has not been left on defrost.
  2. Heat a mug of water for sixty seconds as a simple test.
  3. Listen for the latch to click when you shut the door.
  4. Remove any metal trim on plates.

What the Water Test Shows

If the water stays cold, the microwave is not heating. If it warms slightly but not enough, the output may be weak. The test cannot say which part is failing.

Why You Should Not Open the Cabinet

Part of the electrical circuit holds a dangerous charge long after the plug is pulled. Taking the cover off puts you at real risk, so leave that to us.

What We Test

We use the model label to confirm the unit, then test the door switches, the high-voltage circuit and the part that generates the energy. The work happens with the unit safely discharged.

Repair or Replace

For an older Dacor microwave, the main part may cost more than makes sense on a unit of that age. We give you a written price before we start, and we tell you plainly if a replacement is the better choice. Built-in microwaves and drawers are on our microwave repair page.

Reach our office by phone or through the online form, and we will find an appointment that works for you.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
