The EHR42 is a 42-inch wall-mount range hood from the EHR series of Dacor’s Epicure line. It has 75-watt halogen lights and metal grease filters. At 42 inches the canopy is wide, and a long canopy usually carries more than one light.
We begin with airflow, comparing the center of the canopy with the ends, because a wide hood tells on a tired blower or loaded filters quickly. We then test each light and socket, since one dark light among several often means a bad socket and not a bad bulb. The blower motor, the switches and the mounting come last.

Why is one light out on my EHR42?
The socket or bulb may have failed. We replace the bulb first, since that is the simplest fix, then check the socket and wiring for heat damage and replace the socket if it looks burned.
How do I know whether the blower is the problem?
If the hood is loud or weak even after the filters are clean, the blower may be worn. We test its speed and its bearing, and we also check the duct, before we recommend a replacement.
Is a 42-inch hood heavy?
It is heavier than a 30-inch hood, and its weight hangs on the wall fasteners. We check the wall mounting and tighten it when needed, and we tell you if the wall needs a builder's attention.
