OBS52
Dacor OBS52 Infrared Grill Repair
Most common issues on this model
- An infrared sear burner that lags behind the main burners
- A rotisserie motor that stalls or will not turn under load
- A side burner that will not hold a low simmer
- Re-ignition that clicks without relighting a burner
The Dacor OBS52 is a built-in gas grill 52 inches wide with an infrared sear burner, which the plain OB52 lacks. Two main burners and the sear burner are rated 20,000 BTU each. Two side burners total 18,000 BTU, and an infrared ceramic burner of 13,000 BTU turns the rotisserie, for 109,000 BTU in all. Porcelain grates sit over 18-gauge stainless steel.
A grill that wide has more burners than most owners ever use at once, and problems tend to show up on a single one. We start with the one that is out of step: the sear burner, whose heat should match the main burners, or a side burner that will not hold a gentle flame. The perma-flame feature relights a burner that blows out, so constant clicking sends us to the igniter and the burner ports. The rotisserie motor gets tested under a real load.
Outdoor grills are no longer made by Dacor, so the OBS52 depends on repair, and parts have to be located first. The rating plate tells us the fuel and exact number. Our quote is in writing before we start, and the 30-day workmanship warranty covers every repair we finish.
Key features
- Built-in gas grill, 52 inches wide, with an infrared sear burner
- Three 20,000 BTU burners and two side burners
- Infrared ceramic rotisserie burner
- Perma-flame re-ignition, smoker tray, porcelain grates
Why does my sear burner heat less than the main burners?
Clogged ports, a restricted gas feed or a weak igniter can hold it back. We clean it, check the flow and test the igniter, and compare it with the main burners.
What does perma-flame re-ignition do?
It sparks a burner again if the flame goes out. If it clicks constantly without lighting, the igniter, the burner ports or a gust of wind may be the cause, and we check each.
Is the OBS52 propane or natural gas?
It was sold both ways, as the OBS52/LP and OBS52/NG. The suffix and the rating plate show which, and we confirm it before adjusting any burner.
