Dacor OBS36 Sear Grill Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. An infrared sear burner that does not heat or heats far below the main burners
  2. A burner that clicks at the igniter but does not catch
  3. A rotisserie motor that stalls partway through a cook
  4. Halogen lights or lit knobs that stay dark

The Dacor OBS36 is a built-in gas grill, 36 inches wide, that adds an infrared sear burner to the plain OB36. Two U-shaped main burners and the sear burner are rated 20,000 BTU apiece, and a separate 13,000 BTU infrared burner serves the rotisserie. Halogen lights are part of the package. Dacor has stopped making outdoor grills.

The sear burner is the part owners miss most when it quits, because steaks are what it is for. If it heats weakly or lags behind the main burners, we look at the burner face, the gas feed and the igniter for it. A burner that sparks yet never lights usually has grease or debris in the ports. For the rotisserie, we test the motor under a real load, since a motor that spins empty may still stall with meat on the spit.

The suffix and the rating plate show whether you have propane or natural gas, and that decides how we set up the burners. Hard-to-find parts are the main risk with a grill Dacor no longer builds, so we search before proposing anything. The price is on paper before we start, and our 30-day workmanship warranty applies to the repair.

OBS36OBS36 questions
What does the infrared sear burner add?

It is an extra high-heat burner for searing, which the plain OB36 does not have. If it heats weakly, we check its ports, its gas feed and its igniter before suspecting anything else.

Why does my grill click without lighting?

Grease or debris in the burner ports, a wet igniter or a weak spark are the usual reasons. We clean the burner, test the igniter and confirm the gas is reaching it.

How do I know which fuel my OBS36 uses?

The rating plate and the model suffix show it: /LP for propane and /NG for natural gas. We read both before touching a burner, since the two are not interchangeable.
