The EH42 is a 42-inch wall-mount range hood from Dacor’s Epicure line, with EH4212 and EH4218 as versions. It has 75-watt halogen lights and metal grease filters. Forty-two inches is a wide canopy, and the weight of it hangs on the wall mount.
Our checks follow the sound and the light. If the hood is loud, we look at the blower wheel, the motor and the mounting. If it is dim, we test the halogen lights and their sockets, since halogen heat is hard on wiring. After that we check the speed control and the filters, and finally the way the canopy hangs, since a loose mount can rattle.

Why is my EH42 louder than before?
A worn motor bearing, a wheel that is out of balance or a loose canopy mount can all add noise. We check each of them in turn and fix the one that is causing the sound.
The lights are dim. Do I need a new hood?
Almost never. On a hood this age, the halogen lights or their sockets may simply be tired, and the wiring may have darkened. We replace the lights and sockets and check the wiring.
Can the canopy mount be tightened?
Yes. We inspect the wall mounting, tighten what has loosened and tell you if the wall itself needs attention from a builder, since a wide canopy puts real weight on the fasteners.
